FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Dozens of people with a need for speed took it out on the go cart track Saturday.

The inaugural California Kart Championship Race was held at the Fresno Fairgrounds. Some of the best cart racers in the state competed on a high speed, 10 turn, half-mile road course.

Our own Action News Sports Director, Tommy Tran, participated in the celebrity race.

But it wasn't all about adults-- many teens and even drivers as young as 5-years-old showed off their skills.

"We have some of the best here this weekend from the state of California, and they're doing split second decisions at 50 mph, side-by-side with other kids... It gives me chills just to watch em," said Ron Perry, Kerman Cart Club.

Most of the teen racers are trying to move up the ladder of road racing with many hoping to land at the Indy 500.
