FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- El Capitan Avenue in West Central Fresno has not been so quiet lately. Neighbors are furious about a thief who has broken into their mailboxes, violating their security.
"We've got bank statements, some of us are retired social security, some of those deadlines are important so that mail is crucial," said Jerry Sanchez, mail theft victim.
The thefts happened at around 4:00 a.m. Thursday morning and 15 to 20 boxes were affected.
Julia Amabisca often pays her bills by mailing out checks and is now worried more problems may come down the road.
"Our new credit cards come in, so it's frightening someone could take those and steal our identity."
Neighbors tell us USPS said it could take up to two weeks before their boxes are replaced. So now they have to go to the post office on Hughes Road to pick up their mail.
"What I'm really disappointed in is the support we don't get from the post office. Here we are, Saturday, and I've had three supervisors and I still don't have my mail for Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Which somebody has at the post office," said
And neighbors said this has happened once before about a year ago to this side of the mailbox.
Action News reached out to the Fresno postmaster to see when repairs would be made, so far we have not gotten a response.
