Vehicle crashes into canal in Mendota

MENDOTA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities are at the scene after a vehicle crashed into a canal in Mendota.

The crash happened on Highway 180 near Belmont Avenue just before 6 am on Sunday.

That's when a vehicle fell into the water and started to sink.

Search and rescue teams went into the canal to check if anyone was in the water.

NOTE: An earlier version of this story said at least one person was killed. Authorities are now saying they cannot confirm whether anyone was injured or killed in the crash.
