Trump defends self after comments, says: 'I am not a racist'

Several lawmakers from both parties are answering questions Sunday about President Trump's comments during a negotiation meeting on immigration.

Some Republicans who were in the room for the meeting say the president never uttered the words that are making some call him racist.

The alleged comments against Haiti and African countries come before a busy week in Washington. They are complicating efforts to seal a deal with Democrats to permanently spare hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation.

Democratic votes are needed to avoid a government shutdown.
