FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two people are in the hospital after a car crash in Madera County that authorities blame on a drunk driver. It happened just before 8pm Sunday night on Highway 41 near Avenue 12.

CHP officers say the driver of a pickup truck was headed south when he swerved into the northbound lanes, hitting a white sedan. The impact caused the driver of that car to lose control and hit the guard rail. Before emergency responders got to the scene, both drivers were trapped in their cars.

Authorities say the man driving the pickup truck was under the influence. He and the other driver were both taken to Community Regional Medical Center. Their conditions have not been released.
