Girl dies after being found hanging from security bars at Fresno County home
Fresno County sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl.

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno County sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl. Family members say the child tried to climb out a window at their home on American Avenue near Cherry Avenue on Sunday. They found she was stuck between the metal security bars and called 911 around 4 p.m.

The little girl was unresponsive and hanging from the window when members of her family freed her shortly before medical help arrived. Paramedics arrived to find the girl was not breathing and rushed her to Community Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

"At this point, the family has been taken aside and they're going to be interviewed one at a time so we can try and put the pieces together," said Sgt. Joe Smith.

Family members told deputies the girl was in her room alone for about 30 minutes when a family member, who had just arrived at the house, noticed the girl's head was stuck between the set of security bars covering her window.

Investigators said after a preliminary investigation, they believe the girl's death was accidental. However, they are still waiting for the medical examination to be complete before they determine the actual cause of death.
