FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- National Farmworker Awareness Week kicked off on Monday. Proteus, Inc. is holding a long-sleeve shirt drive all week long. The drive is part of a national campaign by the Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs to bring attention to the work and lives of farmworkers.

Proteus is collecting long-sleeve, light weight shirts to donate to workers. They say the shirts are vital for the work they do.

"These shirts keep them protected from the heat and the pesticides," said Maria Mendoza with Proteus, Inc.

They need shirts in every size. The more shirts they collect, the more people they can help. Donations may be dropped off at two Proteus locations in Visalia through March 27.
