Woman's body found in road north of Merced

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities in the North Valley are searching for the driver involved in a deadly hit and run.

Investigators say around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning someone called to report a woman's body lying in the middle of the road on Santa Fe Drive, near Business Park Way. When CHP officers arrived, they said the woman was already dead.

Investigators said they don't have very many clues to go on. "Basically an unknown pedestrian. we think she was crossing in an unknown direction, hit, and then the suspect vehicle fled the scene," said David Ross, California Highway Patrol.

The woman's identity has not been released. Investigators say they're looking for a teal or green car or truck that may have been involved.
