REEDLEY, Calif. (KFSN) -- It was an unforgettable morning for a Reedley police officer Thursday.
Officer Robert Vasquez who has only been on the force for a month and a half got a call he didn't see coming. A woman near Dinuba Avenue and Frankwood was in labor and Vasquez was the first to arrive.
After walking inside the home, he said, part of the baby's head was already visible. So with no time to put on gloves he jumped in and did something very few know how to do.
"As soon as she started pushing within those 10 seconds, I mean, it just-- the baby just came out, slid out. It was an amazing feeling," said Vasquez.
Out came a boy. The baby was purple at first but after suctioning out the baby's mouth he started to cry.
Officer Vasquez said he has three kids of his own and was there for their deliveries, but even that, he said, was not enough to prepare him for the role of delivery doctor.
