Pinnacle Entertainment expects to break ground on its $2 billion mega-casino on the Atlantic City Boardwalk in the second half of 2009. The as-yet unnamed project is still being designed. It will rise on the site of the former Sands Casino Hotel, which Pinnacle demolished last October.

The company says the 2009 timetable will depend on the financial markets at the time.

It most recently opened Lumiere Place, a casino-hotel in St. Louis, in December.

It also owns casinos in Nevada, Louisiana, Indiana, Argentina and the Bahamas.
