Fresno High Schools Peace Protest

August 27, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Fresno high school students were the target of a peace group's protest Wednesday morning. The Central Valley Counter-Recruitment Coalition distributed flyers outside all eight Fresno Unified High School's before the morning bell. They were informing students of their right to opt out of having their personal information released to military recruiters.

Officials said they just want to inform students of all their options. "This is an opportunity for students to have the other side told. And what we want to tell people is there is an alternative to military service that you can do really good things," said Scott Key with the Counter-recruitment Coalition.

Counter-recruitment members said schools should be a place of learning, not as places of recruitment for the military.
