Police Search for Merced College Killers

Fresno, CA, USA 29-year-old Michael Riley was found shot Tuesday. Officers found him lying on the grass outside an apartment complex on Loughborough Drive in Merced. They tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

This is Merced's eighth homicide so far this year. There were seven last year. Police say crimes like this one are difficult to prevent.

A Merced City College spokesperson said Riley was a six-year Navy veteran. They said he volunteered at a homeless shelter and planned to transfer to Cal State Stanislaus to pursue a law degree.
