Visalia PD Preparing for Halloween

Visalia, CA, USA Police will be out in full force this Halloween weekend. Since Halloween falls on a Friday officers will be working to make sure trick-or-treaters are safe while keeping parties, DUIs and gang activity down.

Officer Josh Pena expects to be busy Friday night while he's out patrolling the streets of Visalia.

Officer Josh Pena said, "Alcohol plays a big role as far as, you get your parties that break out into fights and you have kids trick or treating in the same neighborhoods that the parties are going on."

Last year, Halloween was on a Thursday and Visalia police had up to 35 calls for Halloween-related crimes. This year, they expect much more.

Sgt. Steven Phillips said, "But since it's Friday it's going to be a little bit busier there may be more people out enjoying the festivities, you don't have to work the next day. We actually have an extra DUI unit out there that will be looking specifically for DUIs."

The gang unit will also be out making sure crime doesn't escalate.

Officer Josh Pena said, "We've got to handle calls for service but at the same time more of the active spots of neighborhoods with kids, looking for people that are suspicious that don't maybe really belong with that group."

And police will also be cracking down on parties that are too loud or too rowdy.

Sgt. Steven Phillips said, "What happens is you're allowed one warning. We come out and warn you about the party and we document it."

These warnings can turn into hefty fines.
