Christmas at the Zoo

Fresno, CA, USA The elephants were so excited, they stomped all over Christmas, crushing the chimney Santa Claus came down to give them their presents.

A big crowd of people watched them gorge themselves on Christmas treats like apples and lemons and other fruits and vegetables.

The two elephants have been at the zoo for 25 years now, but zookeepers try to keep things fresh for them, and all the animals.

Chaffee zoo's Shannon Scott said, "enrichment is something we do for the animals every single day. We try to make each day different from the one before by providing their food and activities in a different way. And then 5 or 6 times a year, we put a theme to it and today is Christmas.

The elephants didn't deck the halls, but one of them did deck the tree. It's made of bamboo and it's edible for the big old pachyderms.
