David De La Cerda once proudly led friends into the Bulldog gang. Today he leads them in prayer. His nickname was Savage and his inked up arms show the life he led.

Tattoos are almost a must have on this court. Gang ties for many a guarantee.

The referee, who is also David's father and a local pastor started the organized games several years ago, he wanted to provide an outlet for young men on probation or parole.

There are still disagreements, even an occasional slip of the tongue. But no major brawls.

Players say there's peace here they don't find on the streets and a high that keeps them returning week after week.
