Not all county offices were closed. The clerk's office was open and the county administrative office was open ... but the recorder's office was closed as was the office of births, deaths and marriages.

In July supervisors approved a 40-hour furlough for more than half of Fresno County's employees, a move that will save the county millions. Each department determined which days would work best as furlough days. Many departments picked Monday, which caught many residents off guard. Some will be closing the day before Thanksgiving, some may take the day before Christmas and the day before New Year's off to complete the furlough days to meet their forty hours.

County Administrative Officer John Navarrette says people should either call ahead or check the Fresno County website to make sure a certain department is open before they go there to do business.
