Car show in Madera raises money for new flags

Members of "Madera Classic Cars" held a benefit car show Saturday raising money for American Legion Madera Post 11.

Last month, someone stole 40 burial flags from the legion's storage area.

About 40 cars and 25 motorcycles entered Saturday's show with all proceeds going to the American Legion Post.

"We have a little group that tries to do things for the community. When we heard the flags were stolen, because many of us have more time than money... We decided to put on a car show event today for the American Legion," Cindy Diaz said.

In less than four hours Saturday, the organization raised about $2,300 for the post.

Organizers said the money can be used by the post however they need, to replace flags -- or increase security.
