Clovis man critically injured in crash receives special welcome home

FRESNO, Calif.

Lowenthal suffered serious head trauma when his friend's vehicle crashed into a pole on Sierra, near Highway 168 in January. His friend, Jeffrey Anderson, was killed in the crash.

Saturday, Lowenthal returned from a rehabilitation hospital in Santa Clara. Jeffrey's mother was among those to greet him and said she's been amazed by the amount of support shown to both families throughout the past six months.

"There is a huge group of people that have been involved in this. Not only the kids here, but medical staff, family, the community. We've all pitched together to stand behind him and get him where he needs to be," Erica Anderson said.

A group of Garret's friends called the "Gar Bear Army" also put up signs along the last ten miles of his journey back from Santa Clara. At this point, Garret can't walk or speak, but friends and family members are still hopeful for a full recovery.
