Woman escapes Central Fresno house fire

FRESNO, Calif.

The fire broke out at a single-story house at Harvard and Adoline around 5 p.m. Tuesday night.

Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames shooting from the rooftop.

One person was inside when the fire broke out, but was able to escape unharmed.

The homeowner says she was reading a book when a neighbor knocked on her door to get her out.

"This man came by and he's knocking on the door and he said your neighbor's house is on fire and the we looked and it was my house," homeowner Elaine Margaret Ramirez said. "It looked like something was thrown. When the gentlemen tried to douse it with water, it grew bigger."

Investigators say the fire started in the breezeway of the home and then quickly spread.

More than a dozen firefighters responded to the call. It took them about ten minutes to knock down the flames.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire.
