Gas tanker truck crashes, catches fire near Bakersfield

Highways 99 and 65 near Bakersfield are back open after a fiery gas tanker crash forced them to shut down Saturday morning.

Highways 99 and 65 near Bakersfield are back open after a fiery gas tanker crash forced them to shut down Saturday morning.

The accident happened around 4 a.m. The tanker truck was carrying fuel and diesel when it rolled on its side and caught fire. The driver escaped with only minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol closed down northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 99 at Highway 65 for several hours while officers cleared the area. All lanes were reopened Saturday afternoon.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
