Police search for suspect responsible for smashing windows in Downtown Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The city building is the Fresno Police Department's Substation, hard to believe someone would target it with the sign right on the front door. But police say surveillance cameras did not catch the vandals in the act. So they are hoping someone who may know the person responsible will see this and contact them.

In three months of being open Tony Fernandez, owner of Parabolic in the Tower District has dealt with a lot.

"I've had two cars vandalized I've been egged twice and now this," Fernandez said.

Fernandez says someone smashed his window Monday morning between 8 and 8:30 a.m.

"This happened in broad daylight it's disheartening because this is an area that has a lot of potential."

It is also an area that has been hit with a similar crime.

The owner of International Furniture did not want to speak on camera but says someone recently tried taking out his window leaving behind this massive crack.

Then there is the Fresno Police Department's Substation just a couple blocks away. It is now partially boarded up with plywood after a vandal targeted it Friday morning.

"It's something I think somebody took the opportunity seeing no one was there inside our office or these other businesses probably used a rock or something else to smash the window and cause the damage.

The destruction that will cost the city more than a 1,000 dollars to replace. An almost identical price for Fernandez, he is having to shell out more than $800 for his shattered window. On top of all he has faced, this he says is not going to force him out.

"If we pack up and leave every time somebody does something to us then nothing will ever get done here, so I'm going to stay," Fernandez said.

The good news is nothing was stolen from Fernandez's store and he is planning on installing metal bars to prevent it from happening again. In the meantime, police say the person responsible for doing this faces a charge of felony vandalism.
