QB&A with Raiders QB Derek Carr

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Derek Carr says he will play this week against the Ravens. He's listed as questionable with a bruised thumb on his throwing hand.

In this week's QB&A, he explains why he used a stiff arm instead of a slide. And we ask Derek what he thinks of this year's Fresno State football team.

Derek Carr's status this week against the Ravens is still up in the air after the Raiders quarterback injured his hand against the Bengals in week one.

"Yeah, you know that was me just being ultra-competitive," said Derek. "Trying to get us the first down. You know, give us a little spark that we needed at that moment. I tried to give him a mean stiff-arm, probably something I didn't practice too much. But, I just tried to get us a first down and I ended up banging my hand up a little bit. But, so far, so good."

Whether it's Derek or backup Matt McGloin. The Raiders will be tested once again by an AFC North defense. This time it's Baltimore at home.

"Ohh yeah, they're always tough," Derek said. "Especially that whole division. They're very tough on defense. A lot of veterans on all those defenses. You always expect that, you always expect to face a tough defense. But, like we learned on film this last game. As long as we just do what we're supposed to do. Take a deep breath and play smart. Play to the whistle and all those kinds of things, the rest will take care of itself."

Derek's day job keeps him pretty busy. But he always finds time to catch up on his Fresno State Bulldogs.

"I thought that they competed. That's never a question of any bulldog team. They're always going to compete. They're always going to play their tail off. Ole miss has a heck of a football team. You could see that from right off the bat. But i think that they're going in the right direction. They're young out there. But a good thing is, those guys have a lot of talent."
