Tow trucks came and moved cars parked on the street.
There was no property damage.
But residents were trapped for awhile and at least one was worried about possible house flooding.
"Someone in my house heard the sound, you know a very hard sound and they came out and the water was just running all over the place," said local resident Doris Alvarado. "My son had to go to work so he said, 'Mom, mom the water is running. Something broke!' One pipe broke outside, I was thinking oh my God the water's going to come through the house."
The DWP does not know what caused the pipe to break.
Officials say the ruptured line should be fixed in a few more hours.
