Fresno Bulldog Fans Celebrate into the Night

6/26/2008 Fresno, CA It's a big day on campus today. A homecoming parade for the returning champs then a big pep rally here at Beiden Field.

If last night's celebrations are any indication, you can expect a huge turnout tonight.

The Baseball Bulldogs clinched the national title and all over town, the crowds went crazy. There were hugs, cheers, and even tears.

The party then moved onto Shaw Avenue where elated fans ran into the street. Traffic was a mess.

90 minutes later Fresno Police arrived on scene to calm and clear the crowds and even firefighters drove right into the celebration.

Bulldog hats, t-shirts, and other items are "must-have merchandise" for red-wave supporters. There was the last-minute rush at the Bulldog Shop to get the right gear before last night's game, the line wrapped around the entire store and out the door. "It's been unreal. Fresno is really jumping behind the baseball team right now and it's great," said Bulldog Shop manager Jeremy Welcher.

Welcher said sales on a typical June day average about $1,500 dollars. But since the Diamond Dogs surprised everyone making it all the way to the college world series, sales have been between $15,000 - $20,000 dollars a day.

Now that the bulldogs won, you can expect t-shirts by Friday that say "College World Series Champs."

The only other Fresno State team to win a national title is Coach Margie Wright's 1998 Women's Softball Team. Fans say it's about time we had another one.
