Eight Weeks Without a Budget

Sacramento, CA, USA California is now going into its eighth week without a budget.

Democrat Assembly Speaker Karen Bass said the plan would have reinstated tax brackets that were last in place under former Republican Governor Pete Wilson. She said the wealthy got a break when the economy was strong, but now they need to contribute.

Assembly Minority Leader Mike Villines from Clovis said economic incentives would work much better than tax increases. Republicans said they refuse to burden people with taxes while the economy remains weak.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is recovering after having arthroscopic surgery to fix his right knee. The governor skipped a climate change conference Saturday to have his knee examined and surgery to repair it. He injured it while exercising two weeks ago.

Schwarzenegger went to church yesterday, walking on his own. He was on crutches a year-and-a-half ago after surgery to fix a broken leg.
