Fresno Woman Recovering After Being Shot in Her Sleep

Fresno, CA, USA The victim says she has no enemies but is now afraid to return home.

"I feel like somebody hit me real hard with a bat," said Nanette Fuentez.

56-year old Nanette Fuentez is still in pain and scared … Her body bruised where the bullet hit and is still lodged. She says she was sleeping and woke to the sound of gunfire.

"It was loud and it really scared me, when I heard that, then all of the sudden-- pcchhhh-- everything just flew on my head. It was the glass, it was my mirror. Then I heard the big, hard hit on my side."

The bullet went thru the wall of her upstairs bedroom, then thru her mirrored headboard ... frightened, she called out to her sons.

"Joseph, Joseph please help me I don't know whats wrong, why am I bleeding. Thats when he came with a towel and said don't worry ... I said call 911 please, I'm bleeding to death," said Fuentez.

The units on either side of her apartment were also hit.

"It was like continuous shots and you just kept hearing it, like the clip wasn't empty," said Tiffany Cody.

Neighbor Tiffany Cody says she grabbed her four year old daughter who was sleeping on the couch and hit the floor.

"I was like, oh my God is somebody dead? Is somebody bleeding? I'm just gonna stay low until I hear a cop outside or something," said Cody.

One bullet went thru a bedroom wall, and then ripped through a second wall leaving this large hole in the shower. Police found seven shell casings but so far have few leads.

Lt. Tony Bennink of the Fresno Police Dept. said, "We have no reason to believe they were targeting the victim who was struck, we also have no indication that this was gang-related type violence."

For now, Fuentes is staying with family, too scared to return home.

"I'm scared to be at the house right now, cause I don't know for sure whats going on or who did what, who did it, why? I don't know," said Fuentez.

Investigators say no witnesses have come forward so far. They're asking anyone with information in the case to the Fresno Police Department.
