Pre-Inaugural Ceremonies

Washington D.C. The nation's next first family is in Washington, kicking off Inauguration festivities before Tuesday's swearing in.

Speeding toward history, Barack Obama gained momentum on a train ride that partially followed Lincoln's own journey to the nation's capitol more than a century ago. The president-elect started in Philadelphia, the country's political birthplace, and then moved on to Delaware. That's where he picked up his running mate, Vice President Joe Biden.

Before a jam packed crowd, Barack Obama said solving new challenges will happen by tapping into America's centuries old values of hard work and perseverance. "American dream feels like it's slipping away, we have been touched by your dreams, we will fight for you every single day."

Amtrak's most famous commuter, Delaware's former Senior Senator Joe Biden, promised to fight for Americans every day they're in Washington. "We can and we will restore the middle class. We can and we will regain the respect in the world. We can and we will change this nation. "

Along the way, thousands of bundled up Americans braved freezing temperatures, hoping to catch a glimpse of Barack Obama, and history.
