Mancebo Wins Stage 1

Just one day into the tour of California, North America's premier cycling race lost its prologue winner and overall leader after Fabian Cancellara withdrew with a virus and rough weather will also affect the riders. It was a lot easier said than done for Armstrong Sunday. But he would trail Francisco Mancebo after the Spanish star jumped into the lead just minutes into the rain-soaked opening stage.

Armstrong meanwhile had a rough day on the course getting a flat tire and even crashing during today's 107-mile ride from Davis to Santa Rosa. But Armstrong regrouped and improved to fifth, just a minute and seven seconds back.

But Sunday's story was Mancebo. The 32 year old crossed the finish line in just over four hours and 11 minutes. He also takes the overall leader's yellow jersey.

Monday morning's stage two goes from Sausalito across the Golden Gate Bridge and ends 115 miles later in Santa Cruz.
