Armstrong meanwhile had a rough day on the course getting a flat tire and even crashing during today's 107-mile ride from Davis to Santa Rosa. But Armstrong regrouped and improved to fifth, just a minute and seven seconds back.
But Sunday's story was Mancebo. The 32 year old crossed the finish line in just over four hours and 11 minutes. He also takes the overall leader's yellow jersey.
Monday morning's stage two goes from Sausalito across the Golden Gate Bridge and ends 115 miles later in Santa Cruz.
