The shooting happened right as nearby residents were finishing up dinner. Detectives say it appears a burglar was trying to get away but was spotted and chased back to the home he allegedly robbed.
A call came into the Sheriff's Office at 6:45 p.m. that someone driving a white SUV was robbing a house. The driver was spotted a few miles down the road at /*Millerton Lake*/ when a chase started.
The deputy followed the driver back to the house he allegedly robbed. Once there detectives say the driver pulled out a weapon. And that's when the deputy opened fire.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to /*Community Regional Medical Center*/ for emergency surgery.
His condition is unknown. Deputies tell us the alleged robber is known by the local law enforcement.
