The Tower of Power played to a lively audience last year at the Big Fresno Fair. So did Average White Band. In 85 days, less than 3 months, the Paul Paul Theatre will fill up again with sound from performances by /*MC Hammer*/, the /*Barenaked Ladies*/ and /*Los Lobos*/. To boost attendance and encourage sales fair officials put tickets on sale one month early.

"Because the economy has not been too friendly to a lot of people so we're trying to get people as much time as possible," said fair deputy manager Stacy Rianda.

Rianda said so far only eight acts have committed to the fair.

Four more musical acts are needed to complete the line up here at the Big Fresno Fair. Officials hope to release those names in the next few weeks.

Rianda: "We have some offers pending that we're just waiting to hear back from the entertainers on whether they will accept them or not. So we're keeping our fingers crossed."

South of the Paul Paul theatre the sounds of construction buzz.

"Every year there's something new for people to come and see and enjoy," said Rianda.

Construction started on the Swiss Family Water Tree in March, a new exhibit built with sponsor and donor money.

Rianda: "There will be educational components to it talking about water and how important water is to the valley and agriculture."

Also new to fair goers this year is the opportunity to pay $20 for a wrist band guaranteeing unlimited access to the grounds for all 12 days.

Fair officials hope the new attraction and advanced ticket sales will help attendance numbers soar over last year's 540,000 visitors.
