The spokesperson said that the event was wildly successful and that a large influx of gun owners drove up to the trade-in site with handguns and rifles in exchange for gift cards to Target stores.
Officers at the event are distributing paper slips to gun owners who are still showing up throughout the day that would give them priority at any future gun exchange events the city could host in the future.
The city allocated $15,000 in private donations for the exchange. The event was designed to take guns off the streets.
