Fresno Cash for Guns Event Runs Out of Cash

Fresno, CA A police spokesperson said that they ran out of gift cards by 11:30 a.m., 2 hours and 45 minutes after officers from the Fresno Police Dept. began the firearms exchange. The event was supposed to end at 8:00 p.m.

The spokesperson said that the event was wildly successful and that a large influx of gun owners drove up to the trade-in site with handguns and rifles in exchange for gift cards to Target stores.

Officers at the event are distributing paper slips to gun owners who are still showing up throughout the day that would give them priority at any future gun exchange events the city could host in the future.

The city allocated $15,000 in private donations for the exchange. The event was designed to take guns off the streets.

Action News will have the complete report from today's exchange tonight on ABC30 Action News Live at Six.
