Two Killed in Fresno County Workplace Shooting

Fresno, CA Fresno County Deputies say Jim Badasci showed up for work in his uniform, armed with a shotgun, and another stash of bullets in his car.

Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said, "He had on a vest described to me as a hunting vest where you can keep extra ammunition so he came ready to fire several times."

Sheriff Mims says around 9:00 a.m. the occasional hunter focused the crosshairs of his shotgun on a co-worker at Fresno Equipment Company and killed him.

"We don't know if it was a personal dispute or a dispute that had to do with the business. We just don't know that," said Sheriff Mims.

About two dozen employees ran for cover, some jumped a fence to get away from Badasci, who then used his shotgun to take his own life.

Next door at Peterbilt, employee Scott Hobson heard about the shooting and turned the company's surveillance cameras on deputies swarming the building. Hobson, a former officer himself, says protecting yourself at work can be impossible.

Hobson said, "You tend to think sometimes that you can keep yourself and your family safe but when you go to your place of employment there's other individuals you're working with that may have other problems and they may bring their problems to work."

Doug Southard never thought he'd see a work place shooting in this remote Fresno County industrial park.

Southard said, "You'd hope it wouldn't happen in your place and you think you're immune to it we all do the best we can do but there's a lot of pressure out there on people with their jobs now. We all see our friends and family out of work."

No word yet on whether the business will re-open Wednesday.
