300 Arrested in Cartel Crackdown

During the past two days more than 300 people have been arrested across the U.S. authorities say "La Familia" is the most violent of Mexico's drug cartels and is responsible for a wave of beheadings and the murder of a dozen police officers there this past summer.

The cartel specializes in smuggling methamphetamine into the United States.

Undercover drug enforcement video shows men removing meth from a spare tire where it had been hidden. Investigators said the drug profits were used to buy and smuggle guns back into Mexico.

Attorney General Eric Holder said, "The operation dealt a significant blow to La Familia's supply chain of illegal drugs, weapons, and cash flowing between Mexico and the United States."

A.T.F. Director Kenneth Melson said, "The problem is not just along the southwest border, it's all over the U.S. now."

400 guns were seized during the raids as well as several million dollars and 730 pounds of methamphetamine. The Attorney General said the operation succeeded in disrupting the cartel's business, but it hasn't stopped them.
