Jason Berry Is Wanted Again

FRESNO, Calif. Jason Berry has been in and out of the Fresno County Jail twice this month. Both times he was set free by the sheriff's office.

Jason Berry is wanted again. This time police say he may be driving around in a stolen truck that was taken during a residential burglary on January third. And now we know, he's also being linked to another residential break-in late last week.

Fresno Police Detective Dena Reyes says Jason Berry does not discriminate when it comes to committing crime in Fresno. The wanted suspect has been evading officers all weekend. "We have D.C.S.T. teams, we have patrol vehicles and there's actually the vehicle itself that they are looking for"

Fresno Police are also investigating the most recent break-in at this home Friday morning in Northeast Fresno. Neighbors say they know Berry has been living next door to the latest victim.

Bill Ramirez is still fuming about his home being broken into several weeks ago. Police say Berry was found with some of his stolen stuff in hand when he was recently arrested.

"It's very frustrating. And it's frustrating that they keep letting him out. He should be one of those people that stays in jail until he can dry up and quit taking other peoples things. I bet his family is very disappointed in him right now," said Burglary Victim Bill Ramirez.

Ramirez is talking about Berry's repeated releases from jail.

Due to budget cuts and staffing, hundreds of inmates at the Fresno County Jail are being set free. Berry has been released twice within the past two weeks.

Action News talked with jail officials Monday who say if Berry is arrested again for stealing a car, he could again be set free for a third time. Inmates committing non-violent property crimes are among the first to be let go.

Ramirez is hoping to get some of his property back soon. In the meantime, he's planning to pass out flyers and post "wanted" signs in his neighborhood on Wednesday.

"He's way out of control."

Fresno Police are waiting on more evidence to see if Berry is linked to more burglaries in the area. Detectives say they will continue to stay on Berry's trail even if there's little chance he'll be kept in custody.
