A heavy odor of gas filled the entire area. Firefighters on the scene evacuated workers from four office buildings and closed Bedford Street while PG&E crews rushed to repair the damage.

Rich Willard with the Fresno Fire Dept said, "A private contractor was performing some kind of work and struck a gas main under the street."

The damage was repaired within about an hour and nobody was hurt.
