Valley farmers helping Japanese farmers

FRESNO, Calif.

The farmer to farmer relief effort kicked off at the Nisei Farmers League in East Central Fresno.

Money raised will be shipped overseas to help Japanese farmers, many who lost their only source of income in the March earthquake and tsunami.

Tad Kozuki said, "So many people are concerned about making a donation and losing 8%, 9% or 10% to the group that takes it and for something like this to go directly over and for them to be able to get it is fantastic."

Valley farmers hope to raise a million dollars through their efforts.

Donation checks should be made payable to JAZENCHU, account number 7250890. Funds can be sent to: Consulate General of Japan, Attn: Farmer Relief, 50 Fremont St., Suite 2,300, San Francisco, CA 94105.

Checks can also be sent to: Nisei Farmers League, 1775 N. Fine, Fresno, CA 93727. The Nisei Farmers League will collect donations and send them to the consulate in Japan.
