Saldana pleads not guilty in Hanford car wash murder

FRESNO, Calif.

Police say 17-year-old Jose /*Saldana*/ wanted to kill for fun.

Action News is revealing his identity because he's charged as an adult. However, if convicted, Saldana will not face the death penalty.

Police say Denise /*McVay*/ was Saldana's unlucky target. She was out washing her car before 5 a.m. in the morning.

Police say 18-year-old /*Mauricio Ortiz*/ was an accessory to the murder after the fact. They say Ortiz helped Saldana change his clothes and clean up McVay's car.

Ortiz may be a critical source for prosecutors. "Mr. Ortiz, as indicated, his family came forward early on in the investigation. You know, that says good things about that family," said Kings County District Attorney Larry Crouch.

Saldana's attorney says she's worried her client has already been convicted in the court of public opinion. She says she might ask for a change of venue if there's a trial.
