April 4th AM Live Ag Report

FRESNO, Calif.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is estimating the acreage of table grape plantings in 2011 was less than the year before. The total acreage in California however was higher than it was in 2010.

The U.S.D.A. says total table grape acreage for the state has been up for the past three years.

Citrus production is taking a hit across the country including in California.

A report from the U.S.D.A. estimates total citrus production is down in the U.S. for the 2011-2012 season. The report shows citrus growers will produce over 11-million tons of lemons and oranges. That's down from the previous season.

California's production is down as well. Citrus growers in the state are reporting an 8-percent decrease from the previous year. Winter freezes in several states caused significant damage to lemon and orange crops.
