Fresno Co deputy receives award for saving life

FRESNO, Calif.

Deputy Brian Herman received the honor for rushing into a home that was engulfed in flames and carrying the woman to safety. Herman was on his way to morning briefing when he noticed smoke, and that's when he jumped into action.

"I didn't really know what was going on. I knew the house was on fire. Didn't really expect anybody to be in there or answer. I called into the house and heard a lady scream for help and did what I had to do," Herman said.

Herman even burned his hair while saving the woman. The award was presented during a promotions ceremony.

Several members of the sheriff's office were also promoted to new ranks.
