Suspect dressed as police officer in home invasion

FRESNO, Calif.

Authorities say he knocked on the door of the couple's home on Sooner and Fine in East Central Fresno around 10 p.m. Wednesday night. The couple in their late 80's says the man was wearing a police cap and shirt with a badge.

Investigators believe the man pointed a gun at the couple and tried to tie them up when they let him inside the home. The elderly man tried to fight the fake cop off, and that's when the woman started screaming.

The noise alerted a neighbor who called police. The man managed to get away and police are still trying to find him.

"There was evidence left on the scene, we have a good description of the suspect and we're taking this very personally because he was dressed like a cop," said Lt. Mike Doyle with the Fresno Police Department.

Authorities believe the couple may have been targeted because of their age. The male victim had minor injuries but is said to be okay physically this morning.
