Detectives say missing rapist Spencer Scarber fled to Mexico

FRESNO, Calif.

Investigators believe 20-year-old Spencer Scarber fled the country. Detectives say there's photographic evidence that Scarber's mother's vehicle crossed the border into Mexico a little after 3:00 a.m. last Wednesday, the same day he was supposed to testify in his rape trial.

About 80 minutes later, Spencer's mother and sister crossed the San Ysidro border back into the United States, on foot.

That same morning, Kyle Scarber reported his son missing and said he's last seen Spencer at 1:30 a.m.

After he disappeared, jurors found Spencer Scarber guilty of rape, burglary and robbery. He would face about 70 years to life in prison at his sentencing.
