International demand for pecans may be causing a surge in prices

Experts say the average consumer is currently paying about $9 a pound for shelled nuts. However, they say that number could soon be more than $11.

Experts say one of the largest influences on pecan prices is a growing international demand -- especially from China. They say China bought about 47 million pounds of American pecans in 2007. That number grew to more than 115-million last year.
