FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno Police are telling residents not to be alarmed if you hear several gunshots around the city on Monday night. It's all part of the installation of the police department's new gunshot detection technology.

The system needs to be calibrated to pick up the sounds of different guns, so officers will be firing several test weapons in the Southeast and Southwest districts. The testing will happen between 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Monday night.

From the Fresno Police Department:

The Fresno Police Department will be installing gunshot detection technology in the Southwest and Southeast Policing Districts. Before the system can go "live," the technology must be calibrated. This will occur on Monday, June 29, 2015 from 8 p.m. until 11:30 p.m.

To calibrate the system, the Fresno Police Department will be conducting test firing of different caliber weapons at each location. During the calibration, the weapons will be test fired multiple times to create acoustic patterns. The calibration will take place at various locations in the Southwest and Southeast Policing Districts at 9:00 pm, 10:00 pm, and 11:00 pm.

Every safety precaution has been taken to ensure the calibration is done safely. Prior to each test being conducted an announcement will be made on Fresno Police radio communication channels 1 and 2.

Neighborhoods have been posted with flyers announcing that FPD will be conducting training exercises in the specific neighborhoods. In addition, the communications center, each of the policing districts, and staff have been notified of the test date and time.
