CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Active Clovis residents will soon have a new place to run or cycle through when they stop by the city's newest endeavor -- the Dry Creek Trailhead.
"This is really to serve multiple purposes in the community. It is a trailhead, it's not a park," said Dwight Kroll, Clovis' director of planning and development. "It's really meant for you to come here with your car, be able to unload your bicycles with your family, be able to get on the trail system."
Located at Shepherd and Sunnyside, the trailhead will serve walkers, but also the booming cycling population and those who use alternative transportation.
One of the amenities of the Dry Creek Trailhead is a repair station. Cyclists can come by, pump up their tires or even repair their own bikes, so they can continue on their ride.
City officials say the area also has picnic tables and restrooms for those looking for a place to rest.
If you take a look around, you'll also notice a drought-resistant theme.
"There's no grass, there's no shrubs here. It's a water-efficient open space. This is about two-and-a-half acres worth. It's going to use about 10 percent of the water that you would normally have in a parks space of this size," said Kroll.
The project took about two years to come to fruition and was paid for by $2.4 million in transportation enhancement grants.
Officials say the project will help connect Clovis residents even more.
"There's about three quarters of a million people using the trail system already," said Kroll. "This site is going to be epicenter of four trails coming together. We think that when everything is up and running, we'll probably have about two million people using the trail system."
The Dry Creek Trailhead will be dedicated Saturday morning.
