Woman's body found in a Southeast Fresno canal

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The body of an elderly woman was found in a canal in Southeast Fresno on Thursday.

Police say an irrigation worker was cleaning out the canal near Chestnut and Jensen, just before 7 a.m. Thursday, when he spotted the body of an 84-year-old woman.

Shortly after the female was removed from the water, her family came up to the scene and identified her. They say, she often went for walks along the canal.

There were no visible signs of trauma on the woman's body. The cause of death is pending examination by the Fresno County Coroner's Office.
