Livestock big tradition at Big Fresno Fair

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- "To get these kids here and these animals to this level it takes a village," said Terri O'Leary-Collins.

Livestock Superintendent Terry O'Leary Collins says the livestock auction is the culmination of a year of hard work--something the community gladly supports.

They are doing something a little different this year--top off bids are not just going to benefit the students they are going to their counterparts impacted by Hurricane Harvey and the massive wildfires burning throughout the state.

"We have so many Fresno county communities impacted by fire that some of the kids did lose projects and so we are trying to give back," O'Leary-Collins.

Throughout the duration of the fair, students will educate the public about where their food comes from, how animals are raised and how livestock judging works.

Auction officials say with Fresno County's rich ag roots, it is important to keep the worlds connected.
