FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two young women were killed Sunday morning after being involved in a head-on collision with a semi-truck in Madera County.

It happened around 5 a.m. near Avenue 7 and Road 16.

Police say 25-year-old Mayra Espinoza and 27-year-old Zuara Munguia-Garcia were in a Toyota Corolla that veered into the lane of an oncoming big-rig.

Both women were killed in the collision.

The big-rig caught on fire and oil was spilled on the road. The spill required hazmat teams to clean it up.

Officers say it's unclear why the driver of the Corolla veered into the lane of oncoming traffic.
