Burglar can't stop holiday spirit at Fresno apartment complex
Despite having thousands of dollars in rent checks stolen, people at the Maple Grove Apartments in southeast Fresno moved forward Saturday with their annual toy giveaway.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- People at a southeast Fresno apartment complex aren't letting a grinch pull down their Christmas spirit.

Despite having thousands of dollars in rent checks stolen, people at the Maple Grove Apartments in southeast Fresno moved forward Saturday with their annual toy give-away.

This is the third year children at the complex received toys with the help of New Covenant Church. Last week a local man known as the "pajama-bottom burglar" was caught on camera stealing $9,000 worth of rent checks.

Managers said this isn't the first time someone's tried to break their spirits. Kim Oakley with the apartment complex said. "We've had others that have tried to damper our spirits and with our Maple Grove family, we're not allowing that to happen."

The suspected burglar has been identified as Gabriel Gutierrez, who was arrested Friday.

No word on whether the checks were recovered.
