LEMOORE, Calif. (KFSN) -- Dejarrine Smith is accused of hitting a woman, sexually assaulting her, then threatening to kill her if she screamed.

The attack happened in January of 2015 on Olive Street in Lemoore. Investigators say she was walking home from a friends house when she was grabbed and raped but she managed to get away.

It wasn't until recently that DNA evidence collected from her body connected Smith to the crime.

Detectives arrested him today and booked him into the Kings County Jail.

Smith faces several charges including kidnapping, assault and rape.

Bail is set at $37,000.
