FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Angry parents packed a school board meeting on Wednesday evening. They questioned the safety at Orange Center Elementary School after the principal killed himself while being investigated for sex crimes involving young students.

Emotional parents at Orange Center Elementary School wanted to know how any alleged sex crimes with underage students happened on campus.

"Very upset, very angry. Did it happen? What was going on?" asked Victor Chapa.

"You felt like you were hit in the stomach. You didn't know what was happening," said Irma Rodriguez.

No one from the school district would comment on the investigation involving principal Lance Clement, 42, and a young female fifth grade student.

"We have only the information that is put out to the public and for more information please call the sheriff's department," said board president Javier Gonzales.

Detectives launched the investigation after a school employee reported Clement in his office, in the dark, with the fifth grade student. Clement shot and killed himself last Friday as deputies went to search his home.

Parents now want bigger windows installed on all school doors and more counselors to help students cope with the sex crime accusations.

"We have not been offered a psychologist for the incident that happened. There have been psychologists offered for the principal's death but to me, my kids come first before the principal," said one woman.

Another mother says there were rumors Clement acted inappropriately with young girls before anyone with the district took action.

"He would bribe them by giving them money, tablets, taking them to McDonald's and getting them off campus without any notification to parents," said Laura Cortazar.

During the meeting, the board also appointed an interim principal.

Sheriff's deputies are asking anyone who believes they are a victim to come forward.
